T-Engine and related ubiquitous-computing projects explored how small devices, identifiers and embedded intelligence could work together across everyday environments. Why identifiers matter
A unique identifier lets a system distinguish one object from another, but identity alone is not a useful application. The system also needs a trustworthy association between the identifier and the object, a way to resolve it to authorized information and a clear policy for updates, ownership and retirement.
